We didn’t get very far today
And for us, it’s just ok
We spent the day with the sands and seals
And the night in Coos Bay
Here are the highlights:
We took off this morning and headed for the Oregon sand dunes. Since the dunes were only about 6 miles from where we stayed, it didn’t take long to get there. As we got closer, the wind was blowing and the air was so dusty that we could barely see the landscape. But since we want to squeeze as much out of this trip as possible… we hiked the dunes (that’s not easy) and let the sand run through our fingers. The sand somehow also found its way into our socks!
Next, we headed down HWY 101 to the rugged coast of Coos Bay. We had a nice surprise when we stopped at a scenic over-look (Shell Island and the Simpson’s Reef in Cape Arago State Park) and over the edge we were looking down on lots of seals and sea lions hanging out on the rocky islands! The seals and sea lions had a lot to say; we could hear them right when we got out of our car making loud noises. We spent quite a bit of time listening to them, taking pix, and going on a short hike enjoying the scenery and sounds.
We have found that one amazing thing about Oregon is that when you travel the state, you experience almost every kind of terrain possible!
