Day 2, part 2: Bears, rattlesnakes, and wood-ticks??

We made it to Billings, MT and we are again checked into a hotel (there’s no Wal-mart in Billings… LOL). The terrain leading up to Billings was beautiful but this is a gritty town. We are looking forward to heading out in the morning. Oh… we can see the mountains in the distance now!

Here are some highlights from our day:

We stopped at, “The Painted Canyon,” just east of the MT border in Theodore National Park. I immediately knew we had to stop when I saw the sign since last year my mom, Drew, and I drove through, “The Painted Desert,” in AZ (I was wondering about similarities/differences). The canyon was breathtakingly beautiful. Our God has created a world beyond imagination and we are in awe. There are endless places for us to enjoy standing in awe, wonder, and thankfulness. And we have yet to reach the mountains, the ocean, and everything in between!

The sun is shining, we both feel great, and it is another beautiful day!

We stopped at the “Rosebud” rest-stop which turned out to be a spectacular scenic over-look. Gorgeous multi-colored buttes in the background, the majestic Yellowstone River meandering through the hills down below, and a ranch in the valley that was partially flooded out from the swollen river.

A quick story… We’re driving down HWY   94 in Montana and Jeff, out of the blue, undoubtedly thinking about Yellowstone National Park (which we plan to stop at… how can we not?), says, “I’m really enjoying the scenery from the relative safety of our vehicle; a grizzly would really have to want us to get at us in here. We’d really have to make him mad.” Actually… it wouldn’t take much to make a momma bear come after us!

Speaking of bears… we haven’t seen a bear, a moose, or a rattlesnake (although there was a sign posted at the rest stop that said “rattlesnakes have been observed, stay on path”), but we did have an encounter with a vicious wood tick! I rassled it into a tissue which Jeff quickly through out the window (mine won’t go down).

By the way, we do have a mascot… there will be pix soon.

“I’m so happy… that you love me… life is lovely… when you’re near me… tell me you will stay, make me smile” :)   (a quote from a favorite song)         Our 27th anniversary is June 30th!

Until tomorrow
