Day 20: Rocky Mountain High…

Yep… we totally understand what John Denver meant (and if he did mean smoking a doobie, pardon our naiveté).

Our last (and my first) visit to Colorado was 2 years ago for our anniversary. Driving through the Vail area again brought back awesome memories (I even got butterflies in my stomach). We just took in the scenery, talked about stuff, and were at peace. Although all of the mountains that we’ve seen are beautiful, amazing, and each unique, the CO Rockies are our favorite. In light of that, we dub the Rockies the highlight of our day.

The drive from Grand Junction was also really nice and it was thrilling to enter the Rockies from the west. We really enjoyed that! The drive was so amazingly beautiful and uniquely different than entering via Denver (which we also loved).

We were a little worried about a place to stay tonight (July 4th weekend) but we not only found a place, but we’re also using the $100 apology from Expedia for what happened in Morro Bay, CA (see day 13). We obviously wanted to use the $100 but after this we’re not sure about using Expedia again.

Today was another “pedal to the metal” day so we are ready to chill and our “chillin” spot for the night is in North Platte, Nebraska. Now we are entering a new phase of our journey; we’re getting closer to home. And although we are thinking a lot about that now, we are still looking for more adventure and willing to grab it if it presents itself.

Until tomorrow
