Day 19: Rock On!

We had the most amazing day… not that everyday hasn’t been amazing (each and every one has)! It was dark when we pulled in last night to Moab,  so this morning in the beauty of a sunny new day we saw where we were; in the middle of one of the most scenic places in our country. We were about 10 miles from Arches NP and the whole area is a mecca of unique and beautiful red rock hills, canyons, and rock formations. By the way, neither one of us has been to Utah before so we are really excited to be here.

So… we spent about 5 ½ hours in wonder of the unique beauty of God’s creation once again. We actually took one of the 5 hikes labeled difficult. This particular hike, which we chose because it led to one of the most beautiful arches in the park (Delicate Arch), was mostly upwards on the way there (3 miles there and back!!!), up and over hills and the giant rock-hill that the arch is on top of. And the heat was intense. We brought 1 qt of water apiece for the hike and we wished we had brought more. It was totally worth the effort though (and almost heatstroke… LOL) when we got there. Amazing!

After our time there we headed off to Grand Junction, CO, where we are crashing for the night. We’re staying at the Springhill Suites tonight which we got a great deal on and the place is very nice. FYI: Although I really do still want to try it, the heat on this trip has been way too intense to sleep in the van! We ate at a local place called, “Rockslide,” where we had fish and chips made with salmon! It was really good and we would highly recommend this place if you ever head through Grand Junction.

Until tomorrow
